German Federal Government: 240 million people are waiting for help

On World Humanitarian Day, August 19, the German Federal Government reminds the public that around 240 million people depend on aid. “Without humanitarian aid, their lives would be in danger; looking away is not an option.” Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen (LOG) has been taking a close look at the situation since its founding in 2003. LOG has supported, initiated, and continued numerous humanitarian projects in around 30 countries. In response, the German Federal Government has nearly halved its funding for humanitarian aid within a year, reducing it to one billion euros. However, there is no sign of reluctance among German citizens, who continue to donate to humanitarian missions and support projects that save lives and alleviate immense suffering. Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen has been among the recipients of donations for 23 years, receiving dedicated and sustained support from companies and individuals. In fact, LOG is one of 5,500 organizations in Germany that are authorized to collect donations – also taking tax and legal requirements into account. LOG’s work is recognized as charitable and benevolent; it pursues no political or religious goals and operates clearly as an independent non-profit organization, subject to the rules of the German Donation Council. The LOG board of directors stated: “Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen, based at Frankfurt Airport, is pleased to be able to continue its work as a respected aid organization on the foundation of solid supporters and to take on humanitarian challenges with a dedicated LOG team.”
