“We won’t leave Valencia alone”

Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen/Wings of Help (LOG/WoH) is bringing construction dryers and high-pressure cleaners to the Spanish flood area in a second aid operation

It is becoming increasingly clear what the people in the Valencia region immediately need after the massive storm and flood disaster: In addition to drinking water, hygiene paper, power generators, construction dryers, and high-pressure cleaners are urgently needed – and also rubber boots, which are in great demand in this region of Spain. After the overwhelming solidarity of the German population in helping the Valencia region, and after a strong willingness to donate, (LOG/WoH) has launched another transport for Valencia and its 80 affected neighboring towns and is also accompanying this itself: LOG/WoH President Frank Franke: “The collaboration with local partners motivates us to provide further help and the thought: We will not leave Valencia alone in these difficult times. We have found a second storage house for relief supplies from Germany. Also a church helps us to story our aid. This shows how well and quickly the cooperation with our Iberian partner organization Aviaciòn sin Fronteras (ASF Spain) is developing.” Both aid organizations belong to the umbrella organization ASF International (Aviation sans Frontières) at the international level.

LOG/WoH has a lot of experience from operations following the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley in the summer of 2021, which is now benefiting the people in the Valencia region. Even more: a relief team from the Ahr region, consisting mainly of firefighters, has now arrived in the affected area. The fire departments from the Ahr Valley know LOG/WoH well and had taken over the distribution of aid equipment to the population that LOG/WoH delivered to the Ahr at the time after the flood 2021. The disaster relief workers from the Ahr confirm: The damage in northeastern Spain is several times bigger than in the Ahr Valley disaster at the time, with well over 100 fatalities and damage running into the billions.
