At the beginning of the year, emergency aid for the earthquake victims in Croatia

Before the turn of the year into 2021, around 300 earthquakes shook the Banija region southeast of Zagreb not far from the border with Bosnia-Herzegovina. Several thousand people in this poorest part of Croatia are left with nothing. Houses and apartments in villages and small towns like Petrinja, Sisak and Glina were devastated. Seven residents died in the rubble. Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen/Wings of Help e.V. (LOG), based in Frankfurt am Main, cooperates with the International Medical Corps. and supports a personal initiative of the entrepreneur and LOG member Markus Dietz to provide the people there with urgently needed relief goods for daily life, including corona protective masks. The inhabitants of this region suffered the Croatian War of Independence (1991-1995), their homeland was one of the most violent fighting areas in the Balkans. In the region around the town of Petrinja (25,000 inhabitants), where the earthquake with the most serious consequences occurred with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, the government has built emergency shelters, which since this week have also been supplied with relief goods with the participation of LOG from Germany .
