Children in eastern Greece still need urgent help

Children and families are still suffering from the catastrophic fire that struck the eastern Greek region of Attica last year, causing over 100 deaths and destruction in villages and housing estates. Following an immediate delivery of aid in 2018, a Wings of Help / Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. team returned to the affected area east of the capital Athens in September 2019 to hand over much-needed assistance to children’s homes and needy families on the ground. These were in particular clothes, shoes, diapers and children’s high chairs. Computers for building a computer class for young people were also part of the transport. They are destined for a school near the small town of Nea Makri, whose district Mati was particularly hard hit by the fire roller in the summer of 2018, rushing from the dry forests to the coast.

Wings of Help cooperates on the project with the largest Greek aid organization “Smile of the Child”. It has been active in the field of poverty alleviation, medical aid and health care for children in particular for decades. Today, about 2,000 helpers work for the organization, which is set up nationwide. It is particularly required – also in cooperation with Wings of Help / Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. – on Greek islands with refugee camps. The renewed Greek support of Wings of Help with a value of over 220,000 euros was supported by DHL with a truck transport.

Please help us that we can alleviate the great plight of these people!
