Big relief campaign from Germany for refugees in Northern Iraq

The situation in the refugee camps in northern Iraq is getting worse every day. In addition to the urgent need for daily life, there is also the fight against the corona pandemic. Little known in Europe: Almost one million refugees eke out their existence in 30 camps in the autonomous region of Kurdistan. Among them are 250,000 emigrants from Syria alone. A large part comes from Iraq itself. This world region, which is battered by war and undersupply, has been supported in many ways by the German aid organization Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V. (LOG), which is based at Frankfurt Airport. The humanitarian organization has just trucked 250,000 corona face masks and other relief items from Germany to the camps. In addition, there is a unique joint project with Interplast-Germany e.V. (Bad Kreuznach section) that provides urgent surgical help to people in the camps there.

Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen/Wings of Help e.V. knows the situation in this region well: It works there with the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF). A highly respected humanitarian non-governmental organization based in Erbil / Kurdistan and employing over 1500 people in charitable projects. Frank Franke, Managing Director: “As one of the few international aid organizations, we remain systematically active in Northern Iraq and are delighted to be able to help effectively in the fight against Corona. This thanks to the great support from Siemens AG, which gave us the corona masks. If we can also alleviate individual emergencies, especially among children, through the cooperation with Interplast-Germany, then our commitment to people will be crowned with great success. ”
