Aid on the ground in devastated Mozambique

On Easter Sunday, Wings of Help / Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen returned from Beira, the epicentre of cyclone “Idai.” They encountered a picture of destruction. Cholera is battering the area. People are at risk of malaria and famine has broken out. Wings of Help / Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen has handed over medicine against Cholera to the Mozambi que Red Cross and the International Medical Corps in the Beira region. The medicine brought in will help 2000 patients. In addition LoG handed over also water purifica on tablets. Mozambique Red Cross Secretary General Alfredo Libombo F. Thomas has urged aid workers to the country’s plight. More medicine and food, especially for children, is urgently needed. Food shortages have now reached dramatic dimensions.

The Red Cross General Secretary Libombo F. Thomas thanked the President of LoG profusely and expressed the generosity of Germany.

Wings of Help / Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen will continue its aid and is already planning for a next, short‐term relief effort. Frank Franke, Managing Director of Wings of Help said: “Anyone who has seen the pictures we encountered understands the desperately needed aid for Mozambique, which saves lives and alleviates current emergencies.”
